The indicator can be used further up the rod or down near the reel, and I have made 2 versions for left or right handed anglers: 

 - if you hold the rod in your right hand - choose right handed

- if you hold the rod in your left hand  - choose left handed

This means there is no awkward crossing over the rod if you're trying to detach 

it while playing a fish, but you can also leave it on.
